St. Jude Center Park Central houses formerly homeless individuals aged 18 and up. This multi-phased homelessness and housing project is a collaborative effort between Catholic Charities, Catholic Housing Initiative (CHI), Metrocare, Housing Forward, and more. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to support our residents and enhance their experience at the center.

Available Volunteer Roles:

Front Desk Volunteer
As a Front Desk Volunteer, you’ll be the welcoming face at St. Jude Center, responsible for ensuring smooth operations at the front desk.1-2hour shifts. Key responsibilities include:

Monitoring building access Greeting visitors and checking them in and out Answering phone calls Filing and organizing documents

Use your barbering skills to make a meaningful difference! We are seeking volunteer licensed barbers to provide free haircuts to residents of our supportive housing community. A fresh haircut can boost confidence, promote dignity, and help individuals feel their best as they work toward stability and self-sufficiency.

What You'll Do: Provide basic haircuts to residents in need. Create a welcoming and supportive environment for clients. Engage in positive conversations and build community connections. Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace following hygiene guidelines. What Makes a Successful Volunteer? Licensed barber  Compassionate and respectful toward individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting. Comfortable working with individuals facing housing instability. Use your gardening skills to make a meaningful difference! We are seeking volunteers to assist with gardening and outdoor upkeep at our supportive housing community. Maintaining gardens and green spaces helps create a welcoming environment, promotes well-being, and gives residents a sense of pride and connection to their surroundings.

Duties/Responsibilities:   

Help maintain outdoor spaces to ensure they are safe, clean, and inviting.

Work alongside staff and residents to support community beautification efforts.

Follow basic safety guidelines while using gardening tools and equipment.

What makes a successful volunteer:   

Compassionate and respectful toward individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Comfortable with light physical activity and working outdoors.

Enjoys teamwork and contributing to a shared community space.

Use your artistic skills to inspire and uplift others! We are seeking volunteer art instructors to lead creative activities for residents at our St. Jude Forest Center. Art provides a meaningful outlet to build social connections, reduce anxiety, and explore self-expression in a supportive setting. Volunteers will work with residents ages 55 and older.

What You’ll Do:

Teach and lead group art activities using a variety of creative mediums.

Provide encouragement, guidance, and consistency to help residents learn and grow.

Create a welcoming and supportive environment that fosters creativity and connection.

Engage positively with residents while supporting their artistic expression.

What Makes a Successful Volunteer?

Patient, kind, and willing to listen.

Compassionate and respectful toward individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Enjoys engaging with older adults in a group setting.

St. Jude Center Vantage Point is located west of Greenville Ave and south of Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway. It houses 136 residents aged 18 and older. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to support and enrich the lives of our residents through various roles.

Event Support Volunteer
As an Event Support Volunteer, you will have the exciting opportunity to plan and assist with events for our residents. You will help with events such as monthly birthday parties, Bingo nights, movie nights, and holiday parties. Your responsibilities may include:

Event setup Game hosting Event teardown
