Volunteer mentors play a critical role in supporting young adults (18+) who are transitioning into or currently enrolled in supervised independent living. Each mentor is thoughtfully matched with a youth based on location, interests, and individual needs to create a strong and supportive connection.

As a mentor, you will serve as a positive role model and trusted adult, offering encouragement, guidance, and consistency. You’ll help your mentee set personal, educational, and career goals—and support them in working toward those goals.

What You’ll Do Build a meaningful, one-on-one relationship with a young adult (mentees 18+) Plan and participate in activities or outings to strengthen connection ( free and low cost activities) Support life skills development such as goal setting, independence, and decision-making Help your mentee adjust to life in the U.S. through mentorship and shared experiences Learn about and celebrate your mentee’s cultural, ethnic, and/or religious background Maintain regular communication with your mentee and program staff Follow program guidelines, maintain boundaries, and uphold confidentiality

Commitment Minimum 1-year commitment At least 8 hours per month Flexible schedule (off-site, self-arranged activities) Ongoing communication with program staff, foster parents and mentee What We’re Looking For Reliable, patient, and open-minded individuals Willingness to learn from and connect with youth from diverse backgrounds Ability to maintain boundaries and follow program guidelines Clean criminal background Location Based out of Fort Worth, TX Mentoring takes place in community settingsVolunteers are not permitted to transport clients. Mentors will assist in arranging transportation plans.  Training Provided

As a volunteer tutor, you’ll play a vital role in helping young learners build confidence in English, improve academic skills, and adjust to a new educational system. By offering patience, guidance, and encouragement, you can make a lasting impact on a student’s future. Whether it’s through one-on-one tutoring or group learning, your support will help bridge gaps in education and open doors to new opportunities.

With just 2-4 hours per week, you can provide virtual tutoring from the comfort of your home while making a meaningful difference in a student’s life.

What You'll Do Provide academic support in English, reading, and writing. Encourage language development through engaging conversations and activities. Create a supportive learning environment tailored to the student’s needs. Offer mentorship and guidance to build confidence and independence. Collaborate with foster parents and IFC program staff to ensure student progress. Track student achievements and submit monthly progress reports.
