Volunteer: Drive Hope: Volunteer Drivers For Mater Maria

Mater Maria is seeking a compassionate and reliable Volunteer Driver to provide essential transportation assistance to mothers and their babies residing in our program. Your support will help them access vital services and appointments, significantly impacting their well-being and stability. By volunteering, you play a crucial role in helping them overcome barriers, access opportunities, and build a brighter future.

Duties and Responsibilities Use personal vehicle to transport mothers to various appointments, including WIC, SNAP, healthcare visits, job interviews, and other necessary destinations. Maintain a schedule to ensure timely arrivals and departures. Coordinate with the program supervisor to receive transportation requests. Ensure the comfort and safety of passengers during transit. Provide occasional assistance, such as carrying items or accompanying mothers during appointments if needed. Maintain the safety and upkeep of the personal vehicle used for transportation.

**Please note: At this time, Catholic Charities Dallas cannot provide mileage reimbursement.

Time Commitment Minimum of one day per week. Availability for at least 5 hours on the chosen day to accommodate longer or further appointments. Requirements Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Completion of a Defensive Driving Course. Proof of personal vehicle insurance (minimum liability limits of $100,000/$300,000). Compassionate and patient demeanor with strong interpersonal skills. Reliability and punctuality in fulfilling assigned responsibilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of clients. Familiarity with local resources and services available to homeless individuals is a plus.

Our maternity home, Mater Maria, provides a safe space for mothers to nurture their well-being as they prepare for the future. We are seeking volunteers who can guide residents in caring for their minds and bodies during pregnancy and postpartum.

Opportunities to Serve:

Prenatal Movement or Gentle Stretching 
Lead simple, accessible movement sessions that help reduce stress, ease discomfort, and support healthy pregnancies.

Rest & Renewal 
Teach the importance of rest and routines, share practical tools for better sleep, and offer calming practices for mothers balancing newborn care.

Postpartum Care & Natural Health
Provide education on postpartum self-care, recognizing signs of postpartum depression, and natural ways to promote physical recovery.

Ideal Volunteers:

Skilled in one of the above areas, with a heart for teaching in a gentle and encouraging way.

Sensitive to the unique needs of expectant and new mothers.

Flexible availability for one-time workshops or a short series of classes.

Passionate about creativity and able to make activities approachable for beginners.

Patient, encouraging, and comfortable working with mothers in a small group setting.

We are seeking volunteers who are passionate about equipping mothers with practical, hands-on life skills that will set them up for long-term success.

Cooking & Nutrition
Guide residents in preparing budget-friendly, healthy meals. Teach grocery planning, pantry cooking, and how to make nutritious choices for themselves and their children.

Home & Time Management 
Help mothers establish simple cleaning routines, develop laundry skills, and organize small living spaces to work well with infants and toddlers.

Apartment Hunting & Tenant Rights 

Support mothers in understanding how to budget for rent, read and understand leases, know their rights and responsibilities as tenants, and learn how to advocate for themselves when seeking housing.

Ideal Volunteers:

Skilled in one of the above areas with the ability to teach in an encouraging, hands-on way.

Patient, empathetic, and respectful of each mother’s journey.

Able to commit to leading a workshop, class series, or one-on-one session (flexible scheduling available).
