Description

The Volunteer Victim Advocate supports individuals who have experienced crime by providing compassionate, trauma-informed assistance and helping them understand what to expect in the justice process. Volunteers work alongside staff and community partners to ensure victims feel supported, informed, and connected to helpful resources.

No prior legal experience is required. Volunteers receive training, clear guidance, and ongoing supervision.


What You’ll Do

With staff support, you may:

  • Provide emotional support and a calm, respectful presence

  • Share general information about court processes and victim rights (training provided)

  • Help clients access resources and referrals

  • Accompany clients to court or meetings when approved 

  • Communicate with staff and document interactions as directed

Volunteers do not provide legal advice, counseling, or crisis intervention.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Commitment to professionalism and confidentiality

  • Strong listening and communication skills

  • Ability to follow guidance, procedures, and boundaries

  • Comfort using email, phone, and basic computer systems

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required

Training and ongoing support are provided.

  • Orientation and role-specific training required before placement

  • Ongoing supervision and staff support provided
