As a volunteer tutor, you’ll play a vital role in helping young learners build confidence in English, improve academic skills, and adjust to a new educational system. By offering patience, guidance, and encouragement, you can make a lasting impact on a student’s future. Whether it’s through one-on-one tutoring or group learning, your support will help bridge gaps in education and open doors to new opportunities.

With just 2-4 hours per week, you can provide virtual tutoring from the comfort of your home while making a meaningful difference in a student’s life.


What You'll Do

  • Provide academic support in English, reading, and writing.
  • Encourage language development through engaging conversations and activities.
  • Create a supportive learning environment tailored to the student’s needs.
  • Offer mentorship and guidance to build confidence and independence.
  • Collaborate with foster parents and IFC program staff to ensure student progress.
  • Track student achievements and submit monthly progress reports.

What You Need:

  • General knowledge of school subjects.
  • Patience, compassion, and creativity to engage youth with limited English proficiency.
  • Commitment to 2-4 hours per week of tutoring.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with foster parents and IFC staff.
  • Minimum of 60 college credit hours required- must submit proof

Volunteer Requirements

To ensure a safe and supportive environment, all volunteers must complete our onboarding process, which includes:

  • Background check with FBI fingerprinting
  • Online abuse awareness trainings
  • Reference checks
  • Interview with staff

Additionally, this program requires specialized training before starting your volunteer role, including:

  • DFPS Reporting Abuse Training (online)
  • DFPS Trauma-Informed Care Training (online)
