Join our team as a VITA Volunteer and make a positive impact in your community by providing free tax preparation assistance to individuals and families with low to moderate incomes. As a VITA volunteer, you’ll receive comprehensive training to help eligible taxpayers complete their tax returns accurately and effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file basic/advanced federal tax returns for eligible taxpayers
- Conduct client interviews to gather necessary information and verify tax documents
- Ensure all returns are completed in compliance with IRS guidelines and VITA quality standards before being returned to the client
- Ensure a copy of the return is provided to the client
- Provide exceptional customer service, answering tax-related questions and guiding clients through the tax preparation process
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all client information
- Participate in VITA training sessions and pass the IRS certification exams (training provided)
- Assist with administrative duties as needed, such as scheduling appointments and organizing tax documents
Qualifications:
- No prior tax preparation experience is necessary (training is provided in Mid-December and/or early January)
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Comfortable working with basic computer software and online tax preparation tools
- Must be willing to complete IRS certification exams ( Advanced, and Ethics) prior to the start of the tax season (starting February 2026)
- Commitment to volunteer for a minimum of one shift per week
